ABSTRACTHistoric reasons for justification of epilepsy surgery.
Some important historical remarks on development of epilepsy surgery are presented. Justification for using of these procedures in human beings and biographical notes of most important scientists in this field (Jackson, Horsley, Frazer, Krause, Penfield, Rasmussen and others), are emphazised. Mention is made of milestone technological developments of these times (CT Scan, EEG, MRI). We divide epilepsy surgery in periods of time, as new diagnostic and surgical techniques were appearing. Different surgical approachs for epilepsy surgery are described, also with inclusion of biographical sketches.
Key words: Epilepsy surgery, history, techniques.
