Campylobacter jejuni, una problemática actual en salud pública

El control de Campylobacter jejuni en la cadena alimentaria representa en la actualidad el principal referente de las agencias responsables de la seguridad alimentaria a nivel mundial, siendo la principal causa de gastroenteritis transmitida por alimentos y causante de enfermedades invasivas como bacteriemia y artritis reactiva; así mismo, se asocia con el síndrome de Guillain-Barré. Aunque la incidencia de este patógeno ha aumentado a nivel mundial en los últimos 10 años, y su impacto a nivel de salud pública en Colombia es desconocido, lo que sugiere la necesidad de implementar un mejor diagnóstico y vigilancia epidemiológica en los distintos segmentos de la cadena avícola y de la calidad e inocuidad de los diferentes productos alimentarios. La presente revisión proporciona una visión general de la epidemiología global, la transmisión y la relevancia clínica de la infección por este patógeno
