RESUMENLa tuberculosis es una enfermedad tan antigua como la humanidad. A pesar de los avances en el conocimiento de su fisiopatología y en el desarrollo de medicamentos antituberculosos, todavía es una enfermedad común que afecta a una gran proporción de la población mundial. En los últimos años han aumentado los problemas relacionados con la morbi-mortalidad, lo cual se refleja en el incremento de la coinfección con VIH, el aumento de casos de neurotuberculosis y la mayor mortalidad en pacientes con tuberculosis. En el presente artículo se presenta una revisión de aspectos microbiológicos, epidemiológicos y clínico-terapéuticos de la enfermedad.

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE OF TUBERCULOSISABSTRACTTuberculosis is a disease as ancient as mankind. Despite advances in the understanding of its pathophysiology and the development of antituberculosis drugs, it is still a common disease that affects a large proportion of the population. In recent years the problems associated with morbidity and mortality of tuberculosis have increased, because of HIV co-infection, new cases of neurotuberculosis and mortality in patients with tuberculosis. The aim of this article is to present a review of microbiological, epidemiological and clinical aspects of this disease.
