Breve historia de la gastroenterología a través de algunos de sus protagonistas

Resumen

Aunque la especialidad de gastroenterología es reconocida a nivel mundial desde hace poco más de cien años, y muchos de estos programas académicos tienen alrededor de cinco décadas, los trastornos gastrointestinales afectan a la humanidad desde su mismo origen. En los primeros documentos escritos ya se mencionaban enfermedades de esta área y se recomendaban diversos tipos de tratamientos basados inicialmente en brebajes y en diversas plantas. A la par con el desarrollo de la ciencia, estos asuntos de la salud que inicialmente tenían implicaciones religiosas o relacionadas con los dioses, fueron logrando una base científica gracias al trabajo de muchos médicos e investigadores de otras áreas. Aunque este desarrollo se ha dado especialmente en el último siglo, no se puede desconocer el trabajo de sus pioneros, el cual se resalta en este artículo que presenta una breve revisión de la evolución de la gastroenterología a través de algunos de sus protagonistas.
