IMPORTANCE OF VITAMIN D IN HUMAN HEALTHABSTRACT

In recent years, vitamin D has become increasingly important on the ground that in addition to its known benefi ts on bone, it has shown clear benefi cial effects in chronic, severe and highly prevalent diseases as hypertension, cancer, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and multiple sclerosis; also, physiological states such as pregnancy, adolescence and aging are favored, and their potential problems mitigated, if you maintain adequate levels of 25 hydroxy-vitamin D, which should be above 40 ng/mL.

Very important is then supplementation with vitamin D in many physiological or pathological situations and in appropriate doses, which can be in the range of 1,000 to 2,000 IU daily and with the required adherence to obtain the optimum results to be achieved.

Key words: vitamin D, cholecalciferol, osteoporosis, rickets
